Karl Chaney, Sr., was born in East Baltimore and grew up in Randallstown, Maryland. After graduating from Dulaney High School, he attended Morgan State University before receiving his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland. Chaney then moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, where he attended law school at the University of Florida. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1976, only to return to his native Baltimore a year later. Chaney spent eight years working as an associate with Douglas P. Kauffman & Associates, where he developed considerable experience in handling a variety of legal cases. In 1982, Karl Chaney took the step of opening his own law practice, and Chaney Law Firm was born. Now, over 25 years later, in the midst of the toughest economic times in our nation’s history , Karl Chaney is proud to have built the firm into a highly successful and respected operation. The Chaney Law Firm staff includes three attorneys with qualifications and experience to help their clients achieve the best possible outcomes. Many have had substantial work and education experiences in other states, but have chosen to practice in North Carolina because of the quality of life and practicing law here.
In addition to Chaney (who is also a licensed land surveyor) and Long, the firm works with:
• Jason Schubert – partner in the firm, who brings a wealth of experience in employment law and whose practice is focused upon that area, as well as many areas of business litigation.
• Lower, Lauren Lower – attorney (and paralegal prior to her becoming a licensed attorney) who primarily handles personal injury (including vehicular injuries, premises liability and products liability), wrongful death and employment law. She has also handled many civil litigation matters and has experience in Chapter 7 bankruptcy practice , while she prepares for the next step in her legal career by expanding her practice into the areas of family law and general litigation.
• Dori Boulware – paralegal whose experience while studying to become an attorney has been in the area of criminal defense.
• Yvonne Zwoyer – paralegal whose background is extensive in the fields of personal injury and workers compensation.
• Melissa Legare – paralegal who concentrates on and has effective experience with the firm’s Chapter 7 bankruptcy practice.
